Disney Diva

About the Column

A diva, if you want to get etymological, is a 'goddess, a fine lady'. We're not sure whether our Disney Diva is a goddess but she's certainly a fine lady when it comes to dispensing Disney tips and park lore, especially about her favorite Disney things. But don't let the Diva title fool you: Kristin's advice is always practical, her tips always inventive, even if they do often come a bit of Diva-tude.

Disney Diva's Favorite Things

#1: The Disney Diva wears proudly her custom name tag

I've got Christmas music on in the background as I write. I would have started it in June had I thought of it.

(Side note: go to Pandora - it's free, for Santa's sake! - and type in 'Holly Jolly Christmas'. Best compilation of Christmas music EVER!)

I have NEVER understood why the heck Julie Andrews singing My Favorite Things from 'Sound of Music' = Christmas music. Other than, you know, mittens and snowflakes and stuff. Dog biting and bee stinging is so NOT Christmas to me.

However, if I'm going to have to sit through it I might as well take it and use it to see capitalism soar.

That's right: I'm going to tell you would-be Walt Disney World vacationers about a few of my favorite presents and other cost-worthy things to buy.

Thus begins my column, Disney Diva's Favorite Things (sans Ms. Andrews).

Custom Name Tags

Everywhere I go in Disney people ask me where things are (luckily I know, cause, lets face it, I'm a Disney Diva). I smile and point them in the right direction. Lost children come right up to me and my husband. We are asked to take peoples' photographs and answer random Disney trivia.

WHY IS THIS?

Well, it's because we have on custom WDW name tags. The cast members are all Ga-Ga over them and GUSH whenever they see them (then complain that they have to wear plain boring white ones).

"Those are AWESOME!", you say. "Where can I get one, oh wise, sage Disney Diva?"

Well, you can't get them in the parks, my friend. They've been discontinued. You CAN get them from an AWESOME website called YourWDWStore.

They currently have ten different designs, including:

  • Dumbo $22.95
  • Stitch $24.95
  • Male Villains $15.95
  • Female Villains $15.95
  • Lion King $15.95
  • Buzz Lightyear $15.95
  • Jessie/Toy Story $19.95
  • Belle & the Beast $15.95
  • Grumpy, Dopey, Happy Dwarfs $15.95
  • Mickey & Friends $14.95

They are not small like a pin; they're full-size tags (3" wide x 2" tall), and they ROCK.

The shipping charge is modest and averages about $4.00 for a single pin sent first-class mail. You can calculate an exact shipping charge (by zip code) on the site before you check out.

They will not engrave anything related to or resembling a Disney character name, and Disney has the final say on what it's Ok to engrave. It might take a little while for your name tag to arrive since it has to be engraved, but it's highly unlikely that you'll wait more than 2 weeks. YourWDWStore seems to be run by very nice people and they've got a fabulous park store, too.

On our last trip we forgot until the last minute to get name tags printed for my in-laws and YourWDWStore offered to come and drop them off at the resorts.

Pretty awesome.
