Disney Diva

About the Column

A diva, if you want to get etymological, is a 'goddess, a fine lady'. We're not sure whether our Disney Diva is a goddess but she's certainly a fine lady when it comes to dispensing Disney tips and park lore, especially about her favorite Disney things. But don't let the Diva title fool you: Kristin's advice is always practical, her tips always inventive, even if they do often come a bit of Diva-tude.

The Disney Diva looks divine in her Disney ear hat

Disney 'Ear' Hats

The beauty of Walt Disney World is that you're allowed - scratch that, EXPECTED - to look utterly ridiculous.

At Disney World, the Fashion Police grant amnesty to those sporting black socks and sandals, lime-green Crocs, and (insert shudder of terror here) fanny packs. You'll see people in all manner of costumes, t-shirts, and hats as soon as you set foot on property.

For example, thanks to the Mickey Mouse club, Mickey ears are nothing short of a rite of passage for Walt Disney World vacationers. The odds of you walking out of WDW without some sort of crazy-looking hat are pretty slim.

In addition to traditional Mickey ears, you can find headbands with "Minnie" emblazoned on them, ears that you can pin in your hair like barrettes, princess hats, matching bride-and-groom hats, Sorcerer Mickey hats, cute Goofy hats with big floppy ears, and pirate skull caps. Recently, Mad Hatter and Queen of Hearts hats from the new 'Alice in Wonderland' movies have become popular.

If you have a character that you love, chances are there's a hat with YOUR name on it (literally: for an additional fee, you can get your name engraved on your Mickey hat).

If you'd like to save a few dollars, scout around online for your hats in advance and pay a lot less than you would at the park.

And, of COURSE, there are Mickey-eared Santa hats just WAITING to be worn when you announce on Christmas the surprise WDW trip you just booked. You can find some really good Mickey-eared Santa hats at the LaughingPlace store.
