About the Column

Is it possible to have too many Disney tips? Well, yes, if they're from your crazy uncle Louie, but not if they're straight from the experts, the folks who plan perfect trips for others day-in, day-out: Disney travel agents! Keith Anderson, an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner and co-owner of Mouseketrips, has been doing that for years. He's learned a lot about Disney, especially how to save money on a Disney vacation without skimping on the frills or the thrills. Disney World Holiday Parties

My two favorite holidays are Halloween and Christmas. I'm not alone. Thousands attend the special 'parties' that Disney hosts in the Magic Kingdom for each of those holidays. If you never have, better not pout: Keith Anderson is here to help you out.

Every year, Disney turns the Magic Kingdom into something a bit more magical.

During the Fall months, Disney World offers two special Holiday parties for guests: Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party.

Both are ticketed events where guests get access to special decorations, parades, shows, and characters in the Magic Kingdom. While not cheap, they are extremely well done, and provide experiences you will remember for years.

Halloween

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party allows old and young to trick or treat throughout the Magic Kingdom, enjoy Disney characters dressed up for Halloween, and watch the special Boo to You parade.

For 2011, these dates have been announced:

  • September 13, 16, 20, 23, 27 and 30
  • October 2, 6, 7, 10, 11, 13, 16, 18, 20, 21, 23, 25, 27, 28, 30, and 31
  • November 1

Christmas

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party brings the Holidays to the Magic Kingdom in full force, including snow on Main Street with hot cocoa and cookies. Mickey's Once Upon a Time Christmas parade even features Santa Clause and all your favorite Disney characters in the holiday spirit.

For 2011, these dates have been announced:

  • November 8, 9, 11, 13, 15, 18, 27, 29, and 30
  • December 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 14, 16, and 18

Party On - for a Price

Tickets for both events go on sale Monday, May 2, 2011. Prices run about $67 for adults and $61 for kids, though there is a discount for purchasing in advance. Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club members also get (small) discounts.

Purchase your tickets in advance, but remember, the tickets are non-refundable. Many of the parties will not sell out, except for those held on October 30, 31, and November 1 - those dates will sell out, so if you are planning on going then, buy your tickets soon.

While you're waiting for Keith's next Disney tip, why not ask him to plan your next Disney trip? Mouseketrips does nothing but Disney - and they're really good at it! Hook up with them at their website, through Twitter, or on Facebook.
