Disney Resort Extracurricular Activities

Some entertaining but mostly unknown activities await Disney Resort guests, especially after the parks close. Keith Anderson has the low-down on a few of these activities, including a 'Lady Bug Release' at the Contemporary, featuring Jiminy Cricket.

I love staying on Disney property when visiting Walt Disney World. For our first few trips to Disney, we stayed in timeshares off site. They were cheaper and bigger than we could get on property, and they worked well. One trip, however, we decided to stay onsite, and we were hooked.

There are quite a few reasons why I will only stay on Disney property, but one of the biggest is the cool extra events that go on all the time at the Disney resorts.

These activities and events are typically unpublished and sometimes even unscheduled. I always ask at check-in what is going on at the resort during our stay. As an example, these were the activities available during our recent stay at the Contemporary:

Outdoor Movies: Between the Contemporary and Bay Lake Tower, they set up a theater for nightly showings of Disney movies (of course). They usually show two movies each night, and had the times at the front desk. While it was a bit cold, they set the movies up without fail, and they were a blast when we were able to stop and watch for a while.

Lady Bug Release: One day Jiminy Cricket showed up for the kids, and they did a huge lady bug release around the resort. All the guests (mostly kids) got to spread them around on bushes. Even Jiminy got in on the act.

Electrical Water Pageant: While this has been going on forever, it is really a great way to spend a few minutes after a long day in the parks. All of the resort around the Magic Kingdom get visited nightly by a water parade. Takes me back to my childhood.

Each resort has some very fun and unique ways to celebrate. I love the night vision tour at the Animal Kingdom, and the nightly campfires at Fort Wilderness. Just ask when you check-in - there is probably something fun scheduled that very night.

While you're waiting for Keith's next Disney tip, why not ask him to plan your next Disney trip? Mouseketrips does nothing but Disney - and they're really good at it! Hook up with them at their website, through Twitter, or on Facebook.
