It Came from Disney!

About the Column

If Disney piled all its themed merchandise in one place, it would likely reach to infinity - and beyond. You see it everywhere: at the parks, online, in your neighbor's house. And you're tempted, sorely tempted, to make it yours: not always because you need it but because it came from Disney. For many people, that means irresistible. But fight the urge, just for a moment, until you've read what Jessica Clawson thinks about that irresistible piece of Disneyana. Chances are, she has already succumbed to the urge - and now, temporarily recovered, wants to tell you whether it was worth it.

Mickey Graduation Caps

It's time, nearly, for tens of thousands of enlightened kids to graduate from colleges across the country, ready to land their dream jobs. Doing so in style is important, and those plain mortar board hats are ugly. They'd look better with Mickey ears, right?

The next month in my house will be full of celebration!

This past weekend, I graduated from college. In the next few weeks, we have my sister's prom, her high school graduation, and her 18th birthday!

We have a lot to celebrate, and it is hard to celebrate these great events without the proper head gear.

Naturally, we would look to Disney first to provide us with such head gear and, naturally, Disney does not disappoint with the arrival of not one but two different types of well-made graduation caps!

The first cap features a large pair of black plastic Mickey ears set atop a dark blue 'beanie' style graduation cap, complete with gold tassle. On the front is 'Class of 2011' embroidered in gold; on the back, if you ask for it, is your name embroidered in the same gold pattern.

The second cap features a traditional mortar board topped with a pair of black fuzzy Mickey ears, with a tassle hanging between them. The cap is a lighter shade of blue, with a slightly different 'Class of 2011' pattern embroidered on the lower front lip, and your name (upon request) on the back. A unique component of this hat is a medal charm that proclaims '2011' affixed to the tassle.

If you plan to wear your graduation cap in the Disney Parks, I recommend the smaller one, since the mortar board is likely to be uncomfortable and murderously hot in the Florida heat.

You can't buy either hat from DisneyStore.com, though both are available in the parks and possibly through other on-line outlets, such as eBay.

If you want your name embroidered on the back, you'll have to buy it at Disney.

To all of my fellow graduates, congratulations and best of luck to ya!
