Disney Kidada Wish-a-Littles

One of the newest Disney 'crazes' is a quartet of resin dolls created by hip designer Kidada. Each doll is a princess, comes with a gold-plated charm necklace, and costs the princely sum of forty bucks. But these dolls, well, they're kinda creepy...

Last week, Chris Taylor wrote briefly about Disney's new Kidada-designed princess figures called Wish-a-Littles.

This week, Chris is on important Mouse business, or possibly locked in his room playing with his Kidada collection, and so please welcome... me!

And more about Kidada.

Kidada Jones

What fascinates me about Kidada isn't so much the figures, which look sort of creepy, but Kidada Jones herself. Daughter of R&B icon Quincy Jones, she has been an actress, a model, and a celebrity stylist, and was engaged to rapper Tupac Shakur at the time of his murder in 1996.

Her big break came in 1995, when she styled Michael Jackson's hair for Vogue magazine.

A Disneyland fan from childhood, Kidada and Disney struck a deal in 2005 for her to design a collection of apparel, jewelry, and vinyl figures exclusively for DisneyStore.com.

The Wish-a-Littles

The Charming Collection, as it's called, includes the little princess figures under their official moniker: Wish-a-Littles.

Each Wish-a-Little is a Disney princess with downcast eyes, clasped hands, and open mouth. They look... submissive. And they also come apart, revealing the secret charm necklace inside.

The charm necklaces are relevant to their princesses; for example, Snow White's necklace features a red apple.

Wish-a-Littles are manufactured from resin and stand a mere 3-1/2 inches high. Their charm necklaces are gold-plated. They're 'imported', though the DisneyStore doesn't specify from where - China, maybe?

If you're wishing a lot for a Wish-a-Little, you better wish for a lot of money, too. Each doll costs $39.50, plus shipping.

Are the Wish-a-Littles Wonderful?

Well, that's hard to say.

Of the four dolls in the collection, only Belle has garnered a customer review, from Hobbitgrl, who writes: "Adorable".

If you agree with Hobbitgrl, make sure you buy your dolls from DisneyStore.com, not from eBay, where an enterprising 'top seller' has them listed for $59.99 each, plus shipping.

Even though I don't like their poses, the dolls do seem well-made, and they're certainly unique.
