Pink Ear Pixie

About the Column

Entering Disney World, especially for the first time, is like stepping foot in a foreign land. You have not months, not weeks, not even days to learn the geography, the culture, even the language. Next to your park pass, the most important thing to have in lieu of a local guide is park pointers: helpful, topical, practical advice about how to make the most of your temporary residence at Disney World. Amanda Sykora has been visiting Disney World for over thirty years, and as the Pink Ear Pixie, she dispenses practical pointers to enhance your experience and magnify your magic.

Disney World Quick Bites

Picture this: it's hot, it's humid, your stomach is distended with buffet food, you feel like a blockage in the beating heart of Disney World. It doesn't have to be that way! Don't gorge; graze. Amanda Sykora suggests three of the best dine and dashes.

Eating at Disney World doesn't have to take a big chunk from your day. Or a big chunk from your wallet. These three quick-service locations offer great fast food that will fill you up without knocking you out.

  • Where at Disney World can you load your French fries with melted cheese? Casey's Corner! Located in the Magic Kingdom on Main Street, U.S.A., not far from the Crystal Palace, this quick service restaurant is sometimes overlooked. My family loves the hot dogs and cheese fries. And if you're not on the Disney dining plan, you can grab a fast bite here for very few bucks.
  • Another great place to eat on the run is Sunshine Seasons at Epcot. Located in The Land, this fun food court offers a wide variety of choices for every age. When you enter the building, you'll probably catch a whiff of the aromas coming off the grills. This restaurant tends to be busy during normal lunch and dinner hours. I recommend eating during odd hours to beat the rush. And it's Disney Dining Plan friendly!
  • Yak and Yeti in the Animal Kingdom is a very popular table service restaurant. But did you know that there's also a quick service option which serves some of the best food of its kind in the park? The Asian inspired cuisine is wonderful and on par with some of the best Asian food I have tried. And the portions are big enough to share!

Disney's table service restaurants are always a big hit, but when you're in a rush, you won't be in the mood for a leisurely meal. Keep it quick with one of the three restaurants on my list - all of them personal favorites! - or hunt down your quick service gem.

Need more pointers? Come back next week, or get in touch with Amanda herself at her travel agency, Pixie and Pirate Destinations, where she'll answer all your questions, book your next trip, and possibly sprinkle a bit of (pink) pixie dust on your tickets!
