About the Column

Entering Disney World, especially for the first time, is like stepping foot in a foreign land. You have not months, not weeks, not even days to learn the geography, the culture, even the language. Next to your park pass, the most important thing to have in lieu of a local guide is park pointers: helpful, topical, practical advice about how to make the most of your temporary residence at Disney World. Amanda Sykora has been visiting Disney World for over thirty years, and as the Pink Ear Pixie, she dispenses practical pointers to enhance your experience and magnify your magic.

Beyond Disney World: Hawaii's Aulani

I have some friends who were debating recently whether to take their kids to Disney World (again!) or travel instead to Hawaii. "Aulani", I told them. Aulani, of course, is Disney's new resort in Hawaii, and Amanda Sykora is here to peek inside.

When most people think of Disney destinations, the first thing that may come to mind is Cinderella Castle at Disney World. But did you know that Disney will soon also have a resort in Hawaii?

Opening in late August 2011, Aulani is located on the island of Oahu, about 17 miles from the Honolulu Airport. The beachfront resort offers over 20 acres of tropical Disney magic. There are 460 Villas, 359 hotel rooms, 4 restaurants, and much more. Disney has outdone themselves once again with such a gorgeous resort.

Aulani is the perfect family destination. There are several pools, a 'stream' that you can float along in an inner tube, and a childrens' club where parents can safely leave their kids with counselors while they enjoy a quiet dinner or a stroll along the beach.

Another exciting touch is the Disney character meet and greets: not only can you relax and enjoy the Hawaiian surroundings, but Mickey and Minnie will be there, too!

While staying at Aulani, visitors can experience the Hawaiian culture right outside the property boundaries.

There is so much to do - cooking classes, hiking Diamond Head, surfing, shopping, catamarans, museums. and more. Aulani has a tour desk where you can learn more about booking your own adventure.

But with an 18,000 square foot spa, not to mention a fitness center, who would want to leave the resort? From massages to treatments, there are many ways to relax.

The Disney details at Aulani are magical. Disney does a great job of making sure their resorts are unlike any other. And Aulani will be a one-of-a-kind place to visit in Hawaii. Just like any other Disney vacation, Aulani will be more of an experience than a regular vacation. Explore Hawaii with Disney and book your Aulani vacation today!
