Running with the Mouse

About the Column

Disney travel experts agree on one thing: relax, take your time. But when it comes to Disney's marathons and other running events, they're wrong. In a race, you can't take your time. And you also can't show up with just your two feet expecting to win - or even finish! Preparing for a Disney marathon requires discipline, hard work, and good advice. We can't help you with the discipline or the hard work. But Jennifer Lazzaro, who not only runs in marathons but writes about them on her own popular site, EatSleepRun Disney, can help you with lots of good advice.

New Bling for Disneyland Half Marathon

Most people like to be recognized for their efforts. And I'm not talking about a gift card for Sears. Bling! The blingier, the better. Jennifer Lazzaro reports on the new bling from Disney for those running in the next Disneyland Half Marathon.

Some runners, we like to call them "Bling Addicts", seek out new and exciting medals to add to their collections.

For them, the motivation to run the same race again isn't as high if the medal hasn't changed. To help feed these Bling Addicts, the runDisney folks (as well as other race organizations!) often design new medals for their races every few years.

So it shouldn't come as a surprise that a new medal was announced for the Disneyland Half Marathon (scheduled for the Labor Day weekend). And, I have to admit, it's a beauty! The medal is reminiscent of the original Disneyland "D", and it has a lot of people talking.

What better motivation to make it to the finish line!

Unfortunately, the race is already sold out, so unless you've already registered, you'll have to wait until next year to score the new medal. But what if you can't wait? A few charities still have spots left open. To investigate running in the Disneyland Half Marathon for a charity, sprint over to the runDisney site for details.

Since there are two new inaugural races this year in the runDisney family, keep your eyes (and your browser) open for announcements about the Tinkerbell Half Marathon at Disneyland and the Chip & Dale Marathon Relay during Marathon Weekend at Disney World.

There are also rumors of a new medal for the Walt Disney World Half Marathon!

Lots of new bling to add to the collection!
