Newest Disney Dream: Johnny Depp and Patti Smith
Johnny Depp and Disney? Sure. Disney and a punk rocker known for her social activism, including a call for the impeachment of former president Bush? Well... sure! Put them together and you have the latest Disney Dream Portrait.
The Disney Dream Portrait Series is stunning.
For those not familiar with it, Disney commissioned photographer Annie Leibovitz to create portraits of celebrities in the roles of Disney characters.
Her newest work features Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow posing atop the mast with fellow rogue, Patti Smith.
Patti Smith is an interesting choice for Disney. She is best-known as a punk rock singer, one of the artists who defined the genre in the 1970s, though over the years her range has broadened. She has raised money for AIDS awareness, protested the Iraq War, and called for the impeachment of former president George W. Bush.
And she makes an outstanding pirate! She also has the longest telescope of the crew and I don't even think it's fully extended.
At the risk of sounding like a Disney shill, the Disney Dream Portraits are exquisite works of art, and if I could buy them framed, I'd proudly hang them on the wall.
